Solving the Problem

Opportunity: Individuals often have to rely on judgment before driving after they have consumed alcohol because they do not have a convenient way of testing their blood alcohol level.

Product: Because of this unmeet need, I believe there is opportunity in creating battery powered breathalyzers that can connect to an individual's car keys. As many are able to observe, pepper spray that attaches to one's car keys has become a kind of staple item, especially for women. I believe that a breathalyzer that is convenient in this way could and should also become staple to a set of car keys. I have seen breathalyzers that plug into smart phones in order to be powered and show results, and although this is high-tech, it is not convenient and would be relatively easy to forget at home or misplace. I believe working to create the most compact and efficient (battery-wise) breathalyzer would prove to be profitable in more ways than one. Not only could it create a financial profit, but it would also be beneficial to the safety of our society.

  1. Ashlyn, a breathalyzer that's on a key chain is a great idea. This seems like something that would truly benefit society. I believe it would be most useful for college students and middle aged adults since these age groups tend to have the heaviest drinkers. However, the toughest problem to overcome with this product is if it will actually stop people from driving under the influence. Those who surpass the legal blood alcohol level, will either make the responsible choice and not drive or will get behind the wheel regardless, hoping they don't get stopped by a cop.

  2. I remember when you first brought this up it was like a light-bulb moment, I wondered why nobody had ever come up and created this product already. I think that this is a great idea as it is so practical and would appeal to a vast majority of people because a lot of people like to go out and drink. This product would not only keep people off the roads, but in doing so it would eliminate some DUI's and possible injuries as well.
